Bringing together my love for wildlife, the outdoors, my Wood-Mizer portable sawmill, John Deere tractor, building stuff with power tools and teaching kids life lessons, I set out to build 50 nest boxes for wood duck, kestrels, screech, barred, and barn owls, as well as bluebirds and other songbirds.
Jason and Josh go to work on retrieving some pine logs to skid to the mill. The John Deere 2032R is outfitted with a 3 point PTO driven forestry skidding winch from Uniforest and Jason brings out the big tractor, the John Deere 4052R, to help move logs with the front end loader and forks.
The Wood-Mizer LT35 fully hydraulic portable sawmill makes quick and easy work of these large pine logs. Josh get's two logs milled and the lumber stacked while also learning more and more about just what it takes to be a sawyer.
I quickly modify a Jon boat trailer to improve hauling the recently milled pine lumber from the wood lot to the cabin. Fed-Ex drops off my new dibble bar for the upcoming 100 Redbud Project, and I get 12 houses ready for assembly...
We made a major push to get to our milestone of completing the build of 50 bird houses for our conservation project. Now comes the fun of getting them all installed in a cost effective manner.
